Q & A with Anelia, photographer and stylist for Cruising with Lola.

JS: What a beauty Anelia!  How did you come across Lola?

AA: We’ve had Lola for about seven years. I was driving in town and saw a similar classic car and fell in love. Subsequently, I went home and had a look at a car sales website and there she was- such a beauty!

We certainly had a lot of fun with Lola over the years, travelling over thousands of kilometres across Europe from Ireland to the Czech Republic, visiting big cities & little villages in France, Germany, the UK & Belgium along the way.

JS:  Why did you choose to name the car Lola?

AA: I came up with the name Lola, as that was one of the names I was torn between when naming our daughter Maia.  I guess it’s a good thing we chose Maia for the daughter because Lola is just such a perfect fit for the red Mercedes, fiery & feisty!

JS: What made you decide to use Lola in the shoot?

AA: I’ve always been drawn to retro aesthetics and I am always looking for backdrops with a retro feel which I can use when photographing the kids.  One day I just realised how awesome it would be to use the car in a shoot (not sure why it took me so long!) The kids really loved it, I guess it’s not often they get allowed to be behind the wheels, even if the engine was off!

JS:  Why did you choose to style the children in the two independent labels?

AA: I decided to style the children in two of my favourite brands for this shoot, TAO & Bobo Choses.  I love that these brands produce super stylish clothes that are unique and most importantly playful and comfortable. clothing that lets children be children.  I also feel strongly when choosing clothes for my kids, that they are ethically produced as these brands are.
