Kids Company at John Lewis

On Wednesday 30th October I was very fortunate to be invited to the launch of a exclusive range of clothing by John Lewis in partnership with my favourite charity Kids Company.

The two companies have launched a fantastic Christmas themed collection of fun and colourful children’s clothing for 1-6 year olds, with 10% of the selling price going directly to the Charity that supports vulnerable inner city children here in the UK.

The designs represent the ‘Wonders of Christmas’ and are the result of art sessions that were held at an inner city school in London. There are Reindeer and Christmas Tree Onsies, Snowman Tops with sequins and applique. My favourite design is the Star top below, though it really is hard to choose a favourite as the designs are so amazing, but this one could be worn all year round.

The pupils at the inner-city school created the designs for the collection and Clare Winspear, the Childrenswear buyer at John Lewis said “We found the children really keen to learn about the design and how the process from image to final products works. The understanding that their piece of work and the concept of Christmas could then appear on a John Lewis product was hughly exciting and added a great deal of excitement to the sessions.” I find this so inspiring!

This is such a fantastic project and Kids Company is a charity that is very close to my heart, so I am glad to hear this is a long-term project and the children will once again get a chance to be part of the creative process behind the range.

Camilla Batmanghelidjh and her fantastic team strive to provide practical, emotional and educational support to the most deprived inner city children and at the launch Camilla said “Kids Company hopes to build bridges from the ghettos to the centre of society for children and young people who are profoundly marginalised. To see such beautiful products designed by John Lewis and our children sold on the high street is nothing short of delicious.”
