Photographer Meg Stacker recently showed a collection of images in a photography exhibition in a Seattle gallery displaying work from her Piga Picha project. Meg travelled to Kisumu, Kenya to tutor students from the ages of 8-20 years and here is a selection of images by Meg and her students.
Megs Students
Meg’s students, Stevin “Otibo” – 8, Pauline – 9, Randy – 11, Melda – 12, Steve – 20, Brian – 20 years.
I had the opportunity to return to Africa to launch Piga Picha Project, a photography learning experience with six young artists in Kenya, in partnership with One Vibe Africa. I travelled to Kisumu, Kenya armed with 6 digital canon cameras to gift my new students and teach them photography skills. Through these skills, we explored perspective, cultural heritage, community and storytelling. The pieces in this show share the experience of living in the third largest port city in Kenya and how creativity helps inspire and empower.
