Marcelo Burlon is a complex animal and a Renaissance man for modern times—the Kids of Milan SS17 collection proves it out. Known for building a sought-after fashion house with a preternatural ability to interpret international street styles, Burlon’s County of Milan rose to prominence from humble beginnings as a t-shirt range and now offers seasonal mens, womens, and kidswear lines.
The Kids of Milan SS17 collection underscores Burlon’s knack for incorporating tribal motifs with urban style in a way that feels respectful rather than appropriated, with ease and comfort—which parents know is the ultimate litmus test for kids’ style. Ever ahead of the curve, Burlon’s Kids of Milan SS17 campaign—styled and shot by Petra Barkhof and Achim Lippoth—continues to lead the kids fashion industry in its astute and brilliant casting, featuring beautiful children from very wide ethnic backgrounds.
With its emphasis on bold colours, powerful totem animal motifs, and tribal designs, Burlon pays homage to his roots in the Patagonia region of Argentina, but as always, infuses things with a heavy dose of his signature punk-goth vibes. Not surprising given how Burlon turned Milan on its head with his ‘Pink is Punk’ club parties that drew in designers like Raf Simons and laid the groundwork for his early viral foray into fashion.
