Days out at the seaside, bucket and spade in hand, are a great British tradition. A spirit of nostalgia certainly seemed to overcome us when visiting the idyllic and sheltered Llanbedrog beach nestled on the Llŷn Peninsula. Brightly coloured National Trust owned beach huts, an essential part of the Great British seaside past, adorned the beach like a piece of commissioned artwork. An ideal shelter and storage unit too due to the unpredictable British weather – sunshine one minute, rain the next – so never quite knowing what to pack or wear for a day at the beach. However, the bold colours of yellows, pinks, blues, turquoises and greens would manage to fill your heart with joy even on the rainiest of days.
One memory which comes to mind when sieving through old family beach photos is, that I have always noticed an ostentatious smart gentleman in a suit. I wanted to recreate that look on Oak but didn’t want it to be uncomfortable or hinder playtime down on the beach, a happy Oak equals a happy mummy. So when I read Louisa Rowland from the UK, designer and founder of Abc123me children’s clothes ethos about aiming for a collection design which comes back to this idea of comfort, I was simply hooked to find out more.
The chic ‘easy brown cord jacket and trousers’ are inspired and developed with Savile Row’s relaxed tailoring in mind, the jacket has been prototyped and developed at Anderson Sheppard. It has the elegant smart lines and durability of a well designed tailored suit but manages to feel so soft and gentle against Oak’s skin. He literally wore the suit gracefully all day at ease. Oak never sits still for long, he was constantly playing, running, jumping and rolling around in the sand but never once complained about wearing the suit due to its flexibility, result.
Oak could relax and enjoy playing on the beach making his own holiday memories and adding new stories to our old family seaside traditions. Now where is that bucket and spade? Or in Oak’s case a dinosaur or two.
