In this edition of Chit Chat Tuesday, we get to know twin sisters and sought-after DJs Amira and Kayla. When not entertaining at gala events and hobnobbing with celebrities, these two talented young women keep busy with school and friends. The girls let us in on their personal style, fave celebrities, and what it’s like being youth artists.
JS: Your rise to internet celebrity has been swift. Do people recognize you on the street yet?
A&K: We are recognized on the streets and people will often stop to ask for pictures or just say an encouraging word to us. Many people tell us we have inspired them and that really inspires us.
JS: What has been your most memorable brand collaboration to date?
A&K: We have been blessed to work with a lot of very cool brands, for example, Junona Fashion House, Infantium Victoria, Androine and Oaks of Acorn, Isossy Children. Each brand has it’s own style and flavour that we could draw looks from. We like to attend a lot of the kid fashion trade shows to scout brands we like to wear.
JS: How do you balance school and work?
A&K: Our schedule has been very hectic but our school work comes before any outside obligations. We are driven both in school and professionally and have been able to successfully balance the two with the help of our parents and school.
JS: How long have you been working as an artist?
A&K: To be honest I think we were born artist. We have been surrounded by music since birth but we began to really cultivate our skills at age 10. That’s when we started to really study the craft and understand the constant work and practice you need to do to be successful.
JS: Your style is so unmistakable and amazing. Do you style yourself or do you get input from mum and dad?
A&K: Our dad helps us with our looks and when he needs additional help he calls on our stylist Alex Hernandez. Alex will go out and talk to the showrooms and designers to pull looks for us.
JS: Who are your favourite celebrities?
A&K: We have been blessed to meet some amazing people, all of the celebrities we have met have been great and have offered us support and encouragement. We recently met Nicole Scherzinger (see image above) and would love to meet Rihanna & Beyonce.
JS: What fashion magazines most inspire you?
A&K: We love any fashion magazine that is able to show the diversity and blend different fashion styles.
