“We feel that it is so important for kids of colour to be able to see positive images that look like them in the media.” – Kahran from CreativeSoul Photography.
The Atlanta-based couple, who run CreativeSoul Photography, Regis and Kahran created their Afro Art Series project to celebrate the beauty and versatility of natural hairstyles of Black girls and to counter-attack the lack of diversity in popular media. Travelling to various states, New York, Detroit, Miami, Atlanta and London, the couple has captured girls and boys rocking their natural looks in stunning portraits.
From Baroque-style portraits to high-fashion looks to a steampunk aesthetic, each of their shoots in the Afro Art series has a different theme. Regis and Kahran hope that girls and boys around the world will be inspired to love their unique differences and beauty within.
‘As we continue our AfroArt series, we’ve decided to further highlight and explore our visions of the African Diaspora. With themes of the past, present and future we decided to use our ornate styling to highlight the beauty and versatility of afro hair. Many of the photos can be described as a bit of cultural fusion, merging elements of various cultures throughout the African diaspora’ – Kahran from CreativeSoul Photography.
