Best of British

fashion claregreen bestofbritish6I hope you are doing well and getting into the festive spirit and not panicking about everything there is to do, I have tried to be more organised this year which has helped, but there is usually a last minute panic about something!

This months post is not about fashion, but about another subject close to my heart – Made in Britain. It isn’t easy to find childrens gifts that are made here any more, but there are a few! I have written about a selection that I have come across that I love and have (mostly) tried out or if not they are on my wish list, if you still have some gifts to buy I hope you find some inspiration below!

I first came across Rosie Flo’s colouring books a few years ago when I was designing fancy dress and found them a great source of inspiration! I have come across them again recently at a fab gift shop near me (www.chirpystore.co.uk) They are the most amazing colouring books for girls and boys that have such quirky imagination in them, you can’t help but smile. Designed by the parents of two girls who spent many hours drawing together to create unusual dresses, not on figures, they were inspired to turn them into a range of colouring books. Initially just a range of books (£5.99) there is now a Fashion show (£14.99) and also posters and postcards, check out their online shop at www.rosieflo.co.uk which also has a list of stockists.

Another great product which involves colouring in are these posters from www.claireclose.co.uk , I first came across this website when looking for a non choclate gift for my daughters at Easter and discovered these. There are posters ranging in price fro £10.00 to £20.00 (Colour in Christmas Tree above left and Colour in Art Gallery above right,) and also great ideas such as these Christmas Dinner Placemats (centre) at £4.00 to £10.00.

Following on along the creative theme are these fab sock animals from www.sock-creatures.co.uk – they are made by a gift shop called Inhabit based in Truro, Cornwall, when these loveable craft kits became a best seller they decided to launch a website to sell them, pictured above is the Sock Monkey Craft Kit, Penguin Craft Kit and the Sockosaurus Craft Kit, all priced at £12.00. When we made ours we also customised it a bit adding a necklace and earrings – all kids love soft toy animals and craft, whats not to like!

Orchard Toys are probably the best known maker of British made games – they have an amazing range of fun and educational games, jigsaws and books. Established now for 40 years, everything is designed and made in Norfolk, all the board used for the games and jigsaws and also the packaging is 100% recycled. Pictured above is the ‘If you see a Crocodile’ board game which my youngest (aged 5) loves (£11.75,) one of their jigsaws for younger children (Pets  £6.50) and one of their books ‘Tiberius and the friendly dragon’ (£5.99.) They are a great go to of mine for Birthday presents.

When I saw this by one of my favourites www.wildthingsdresses.com I just had to include it, such a great idea! This is a doorway puppet theatre, that ingeniously hangs in a doorway suspended by an extendable pole, it costs £90 and the puppet sets which you can choose to go with (at an additional cost) are the three bears or little red riding hood, so cute I just know my girls would spend hours playing with this! They also have some beautiful doll sewing sets from £18 and gorgeous Teepees at £160.00, I just love the circus one!

I hope I have inspired you to make some British purchases this Christmas and would love to hear about any other great products you have come across too!
