Photographer Michelle Marshall paints a wildly colourful narrative evoking the most outrageous 80’s trends you might remember from your own childhood in Double Trouble, her new editorial for Hooligans magazine. With thick faux fur, mismatched shoes, tulle overload, rainbow to the max, and lots and lots of wild crimped hair, Double Trouble is like the fashion equivalent of bathing in sparkly unicorn tears—pure magic!
Let’s find out more in a mini-Q&A with Michelle Marshall, the creative force and photographer behind one of our favourite editorials in the latest edition of Hoolignas magazine.
JS: Michelle, where did the concept for this shoot originate?
MM: I fell in love with Chapter 2 BUZZARD shoe from their SS18 Colours of The Tribe collection, and decided to do a Birds of Paradise/zoomorphic kind of story. Unfortunately, the shoes were out on loan so we created a looser narrative based on quirky, colourful and playful styling.
JS: Why the Double Trouble title?
MM: No real story behind the title—perhaps because there was two of them… ha!
JS: What was the vibe on set?
MM: The process on the day involves a lot of chatting. Whether or not I have met the models before we talk a lot throughout the shoot about everything and anything. Music also plays a big part. So as it happens, Tiarna’s favourite girl groups are (the late) Fifth Harmony and Little Mix and it turns out that Sadie is a dancer, and when the music plays the moves come out!
