The elusive Hundred Acre Wood has been on our list of must-see places this summer. Nearing the end of our stay in England, we ventured into the land of honey pots and Winnie-the-Pooh, retracing the footsteps of Christopher Robin. Our own Winnie, who has earned the coveted title of ‘favourite friend’, joined us for this unforgettable experience.
Our journey begins in Tunbridge Wells, a short drive down the road from the land of Pooh and home to the hand-made baby and childrenswear brand, Sue Hill. Across a cobbled pedestrian colonnade, the Sue Hill boutique showcases sumptuous knitwear and a wide range of classically styled pieces for both lads and lasses. Quality fabrics, Liberty prints and garments exquisitely hand-made in the U.K., it is no wonder we were instantly enchanted by this wonderful line.
Sue Hill’s Autumn collection incorporates delicate Liberty florals so thoughtfully presented with coordinating velvet or ribbon trim. While we are still basking in the sun, these frocks will take us seamlessly into cooler temperatures that await.
Visitors to Pooh Country (as they call it) are wise to pick up a map to the Sticks bridge and Winnie-the-Pooh’s tree stump home at the Pooh Corner shop in Hartfield. Of course it wouldn’t be right to come all this way and not have a go at Winnie-the-Pooh’s favourite game of Pooh-sticks. And if you needed another excuse to visit, our favourite bear just happens to be celebrating his 90th this year alongside the Queen. In celebration of this special anniversary, the unveiling of a newly discovered Penguin character is due out next month in a fresh collection of Winnie-the-Pooh stories.
