Style Piccoli is a magazine dedicated to free time, play and fashion for the under 12’s. We are thrilled to be able to present to you an editorial from a recent edition of Style Piccoli, Circo Galattico (Galactic Circus). The images were first shown at Pitti Bimbo trade show in June 2016 and then published in the July/August issue of Style Piccoli.
With a number of the clothing collections this season featuring a space theme, Stylist Petra Barkhof alongside Photographer Marco Tassinari decided to address this key trend and have created a Circus in Space. Children love space and the planets and the Galactic Circus certainly encapsulates this theme in the circus acts it creates bringing together circus props, robots stars, globes in a fun and playful Circo Galattico. There is even have a robot juggling the world in his hands!
JS: What do the numbers refer to in the video and images?
PB: The concept of numbers has a dual meaning. One the one hand we have the circus numbers, ie the various acts that appear during the show, revisited there in the original and jokey fanta-scientific key and on the other hand there are numbers used to catalogue the stars mounted in the magical big top, immortalised live by Marco.
JS: The robots look amazing. Where did you get the robots from?
PB: Patrizia Tassinari, Marco’s producer and casting director discovered the fantastic artist Renato Mancini who creates art out of trash and whom created the robots for the shoot, which as you can imagine went down a treat with the children.
JS: It looks like the editorial was a lot of fun to create and to be involved in when you view the video. How did the children take to working with the robots?
PB: They loved the robots a lot and got really involved in the shoot. Kids love the universe and the world we live in, especially now even more so with the recent mission Tim Peake under took when he stayed on the International Space station, this year. I am sure that has inspired many young people wanting to become astronauts!
Circo Galattico was published in Style Piccoli.
