Q & A with Designer Laura.

JS: How many collections do you launch each year?

LM: We have two collections a year. I am currently preparing the AW19 collection. The inspiration comes from my childhood memories and spending time at my grandmother’s house where I had the best summer holidays.

JS: What is new for the SS19 collection?

LM: The new SS19 collection features delicate and light colours.  I wanted calm colours for this and I, therefore, use a lot of natural earth colours, for example, beige, white, light brown, wildflowers pastels and different fabrics as natural linen, silk and leather. This collection is a mix of a classic and modern look. I wanted to express a feeling of freedom. Delicate details of flowers, light, flies in the wind. A collection of styles for sensitive and romantic souls.

JS: Where does the inspiration come from?

LM: Mother earth is the best inspiration for me. Wildflowers, fields, the sea and forests are my biggest treasures. As a child, I remember whilst my grandmother was sewing, I would play with the different fabrics and I loved the different textures and feel of them.  My love for details come from these things and of course, my three daughters, as I am always thinking about what they would love to wear.  I like them to create on-trend pieces for them.

JS: How long have you been designing?

LM: Majulahandmade was born in 2017. I am a creative person and after my third daughter was born, my creativity just exploded and I needed to express myself more and I felt this was the right way for me to do so as I love the process of designing and creating.

JS: Which is your favourite piece in the new collection?

LM: There is a lot of heart and soul that goes into creating designs and I am always in love with the new piece I create. Beige is my all times favourite colour as it is never-ending.

JS: How long does it take to make one of the styles on average?

LM: Our all headpieces are handmade. First of all, we have to prepare and paint the silk (we start to use natural dyes) after this process, we then form silk flowers with special artificial tools.  Preparing the biggest flower crown could take all the working day.

JS: What was your style like as a child?  Did you experiment with hair accessories and did you used to wear them as a child?

LM: I did not have a lot of hair accessories when I was a child. Sorry, my mom was terrible with my hairstyles and I always was dreaming about better hairstyles.  I loved to create hairstyles for my dolls so much and when I was older I always created hairstyles for others. I started from my dolls, later for my friends and now for my daughters!
