I love my long hair but rarely brush it, then always wonder why my girls NEVER want to brush their hair. As you can image we are a herd of ragamuffins over here. I would never put patience on a list that described me, but I have four kids… and a husband, so I must be. I feel most comfortable with a baby on my hip or a camera in my hand, and it’s very often both of those things. My favourite thing to photograph is real life, childhood as it actually happens, emotion, wildflowers and that golden light that would take your breath away. The Hobbs Farm is located on the Alberta Prairies in Canada, where they keep pigs, chickens, cows, horse, goats and a few ragamuffins too.
When we moved from the town to the city it never seemed right to be calling ourselves farm folk, farm kids, farm people. However, we kind of decided we were when my youngest, who is now seven, and you can see in the photos, started preschool. It was winter time and I took her to preschool. There was always this odd smell on the way there and when I picked her up. It took me a few weeks, but I realised her boots, coat and hat were the same boots, coat and hat she would tread around and play in the pens in. I might have gasped, not raised a farm kid myself, my daughter was the stinky kid at school! We soon fixed that and now have a separate set of clothes for farm activities and occasions where we go to school or town!
The dress Halle is wearing is from Devon’s Drawer and it just the right kind of dress for our family. We like timeless clothes that look great and are durable enough they can be passed down to a younger sibling, and then another. She doesn’t usually wear this dress to play and hold the animals, but sometimes the school clothes get a little dirty.
