Q & A with Photographer Nadja Pollack.

JS: How did the collaboration with The Small Gatsby arise?

NP: I had contacted The Small Gatsby a couple of months before our first shoot. I had seen their collection and liked it a lot. Their style somehow connected with my own style of photography. Due to the geographical distance, we were not sure if a shoot could be possible.  Not so long after, Teresa from The Small Gatsby came back to me and suggested a collaboration.

JS: What was your inspiration for the shoot?

NP: The inspiration came from the collection itself. “Junge Römer“ which has a very strong theme, so I tried to create an atmosphere that connected with the collection seamlessly. I checked images of statues and also movies to get a better idea of what would be suitable.

I like a very clean way of photographing even though I also like to try new different things. I like the highly styled shoots of the adult fashion world and love to take parts of it and apply it to the kid’s fashion world!

JS: How were the models chosen?

NP: When choosing models for a shoot I always check if their charisma fits with the theme. Personally, I think every puzzle piece has to fall in its place and a model is one of the puzzle pieces.

JS: What made you shoot during the Playtime Trade Show?

NP: A shoot during Playtime was also the idea of The Small Gatsby themselves. The Park in which the trade show is situated has many amazing spaces and we found the perfect places to shoot the images. It was a fantastic location and showing the images we took immediately on a screen at The Small Gatsby’s exhibition stand at the fair, obviously was a big plus for catching the attention of buyers and the press.
