Petite Bergamote: Inspired by the past, open to the present & future

Photographer and Contributor Emily Kornya presents to you Petite Bergamote AW 2016-2017 collection entitled “Voyage”. The collection for girls aged 4-8 years is totally inspired by the 50’s, yet expresses the newest trends in fashion too. Each style in the collection displays simplicity and elegance.

I would have loved to dress in Petite Bergamote as a child as I think I would have felt like I was royalty, as the designs are very sophisticated and elegant, which was always a special feeling. I would have felt like I was wearing a bit of the past with each piece, with Petite Bergamote’s 1950’s influence. This clothing is contemporary and relevant. A perfect match.

Designers Ilona Smadja and Daria Kusina were inspired by the exhibition “The 50’s” at the Palais Galliera in 2015 for the image of their brand and want to express deep sensitivity and plenitude of emotions in their collections. Ilona and Daria create clothes that are perfect for special occasion, but also for the casual chic style one wears in everyday life.

For the production the designers have used only natural and high quality fabrics, such as wool, cotton and silk. You can find in their clothing strong shades of navy blue, browns, beiges, elegant shades of powder pink, and well as simple blacks and whites. The collection can be described as elegant, with retro chic jackets, elegant trench coats, minimalist dresses an frilled skits. Each model from the collection breathes with the atmosphere of the 50’s.

The designers Ilona and Daria are both two Poles living in Paris. Ilona Smadja, who has lived in France for 18 years, has a history of being a stylist, clothing and textile technologist, and has worked for a wedding dress manufacturer, as well as a prêt-à-porter brand specialising in formal clothes for children. Daria Kushina, has been living in France for 3 years and has worked in marketing for some of the most well known international brands. Meeting Ilona inspired and gave her the incentive to take up the challenge and try her hand at creative work.
