Tweed has been on the Autumn Winter catwalks for a few seasons now and is a great versatile fabric for adults and kids alike, once a very traditional fabric it has been brought into the 21st century with some great new colours and yarns so you can choose to go for a classic or more modern look depending on what takes your fancy.
Sometimes considered to be impractical for children it is actually very hard wearing and not as hard to keep clean as you might think, it is also made of wool which in itself has lots of great qualities including:it is a natural and sustainable resource, it keeps you warm or cool, it is naturally fire-retardant (as a result of its high water and nitrogen content, who knew?!) and it is biodegradable so what more reasons do you need! Ralph Lauren’s Autumn Winter 2014 catwalk show entitled ‘Back to School’ in aid of his literacy campaign ‘Reach out and Read’ was a lovely traditional take on some tweed and tartan…
A few items I have found which also follow the more traditional look are as below…

Little Poncho’s make the most adorable tweed poncho’s here in the UK in a range of plain and patterned tweeds so you should be able to find something to suit – the one featured is the ‘Florence’ style and at £225.00 is definitely an investment but as it is a poncho your child should get plenty of wear out of it and if you fancy something unique they also make bespoke! (www.littleponchos.co.uk) Pictured alongside is the Mayfair Cap and Scarf from Artimus London in a traditional tweed with a lovely London print lining (£60.00 for ages 6mths to 5 yrs available at www.artimuslondon.co.uk) also made in Britain this is a really great gift that can be passed down!

Channel your daughter’s inner Chanel with this classic Chloe shift dress in a black tweed with hints of beige and gold and a beautiful gold back zip detail (£121.00 ages 4-14yrs available from www.alexandalexa.com) Or if you fancy something a little softer try this Chloe mint green tweed dress with a subtle metallic sparkle and pretty frill cap sleeve detail (£100.00 ages 6mths to 3 yrs available at www.alexandalexa.com) If something more funky is what you’re after try this fabulous Hoxton cap and scarf set in Strawberry from www.artimuslondon.com at £60.00 and available in ages 6mths to 5yrs – I just love the crown print lining!
Let me know what you think of Tweed now!
